One of the benefits of living and working in New York City is that there are always new gluten-free options popping-up and best of all most deliver. I am a huge fan of Seamless Web and use it pretty much every day to order my lunches for delivery when at the office. What I love about seamless is the ability to search restaurants that deliver to your area and of course my favorite search term is gluten-free. I have found many new places that I would have never know had gluten-free options this was and one of my go-to favorites is Untamed Sandwiches.
Untamed Sandwiches has two locations in the City – Bryant Park and DUMBO (Brooklyn). They are also planning a future location in Midtown East. In a city flooded with sandwich options, Untamed provides an eclectic menu of unique options that are a real stand-out in the crowded space. Not to mention that all of the sandwiches can be ordered as a platter, sans bread, or on a fabulous gluten-free roll from Free Bread. Untamed also prides itself on partnering with many local suppliers to source ingredients and menu items that are 100% sustainable. All of their meats are grass-fed and free-range and vegetables used are organic where possible, local and pesticide-free. You can truly taste the difference that this makes the first time you bite into one of their sandwiches.
Some of my favorite items include: The General Zapata (chicken tinga, queso fresco, pickled onions, radishes, pickled jalapenos, cilantro), The Butt (cider braised pork butt, sharp cheddar, broccoli rabe, pepper jelly, Dijon mustard), The Nettle Neck (braised lamb neck, walnut nettle pesto, gruyere cheese, baby onions, grilled onion tops) and The Frere Jacques (port wine braised grass fed beef brisket, caramelized onions, Gruyere cheese, whole grain mustard). I always get a side of their cheddar jalapeño grits which are simple out of this world – with just the right amount of heat from fresh peppers and for dessert, their Flourless Chocolate Almond Saltie is the perfect balance of sweet elevated by a coating of sea salt.
If you are in NYC or visiting, definitely pay them a visit as you will not be disappointed. Their sandwiches truly are worth making a special trip and the gluten-free rolls they use are among the finest I have come across.
