Rudi’s Gluten Free Tortillas

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

I have been meaning to review these new tortillas from Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery since they were kind enough to send them to me a while back.  I received all three of their new varieties: Spinach, Plain, and Fiesta.

Now I was a big wrap person before my diagnosis so was immediately excited at the prospect of once again enjoying a wrap in something other than a plain corn tortilla.  The first thing that I noticed about these tortillas was that they were extremely flexible straight out of the bag – not doubt because of the complex gluten-free flour base that Rudi’s uses that contains: Sorghum, Brown Rice, Corn, Amaranth, Quinoa, Millet, and Teff.  The consistency and texture is really quite unique being a bit thicker than what you would expect in a traditional corn tortilla but having far more flexibility.  Now Rudi’s does recommend quickly heating their tortillas which I also tried and they do become even more pliable – but I do have to confess that I often just ate them right out of the bag.

The Plain variety has a subtle sweetness that I really enjoyed and paired well with everything from eggs in a breakfast wrap to the perfect quesadilla filled with cheese made right in the oven (which made the edges wonderfully crisp – just a little tip there).  The Spinach variety was a real standout with not only the spinach taste you would expect but subtle undertones of cilantro and garlic.  They also paired well with pretty much anything I could think to eat them with but made a particularly good hummus-lined wrap filled with some fresh veggies.  The Fiesta flavor was an interesting mix of the sweetness from the tortilla based elevated with a touch of jalapeno flavor but was not at all overly spicy and was the perfect wrapping vessel for making taco wraps.  A bit of beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a schmear of beans, and some salsa helped take tacos to the next level.

If you are looking for something to help make breakfast, lunch, or dinner a bit more interesting then I would definitely recommend giving these tortillas a try.  They are so easy to use and versatile that the possibilities are pretty much limited only by your imagination.  You can find out where to purchase Rudi’s in your area right on their Web site where you can also learn more about all of their great gluten-free products (I am a sucker for their Cinnamon Raisin bread).

30 Days of Gluten Free Giveaways from Rudi’s

Friday, February 10th, 2012

My ever-fabulous friends over at Rudi’s Gluten-Free are starting 2012 off with a bang.  They are giving away a ton of great products and prizes daily over the next thirty days.

All you need to do is head on over to their Facebook page each day to enter to win that day’s prize.  Give their page a “Like” and you’ll get a $2-off coupon to use on any of their delicious products.

I have long been a fan of Rudi’s ever since I tried their Cinnamon Raisin bread at a Rudi’s event where it was love at first bite.

Here’s a bit more detail about the initiative from the brand:

Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery is on a mission to help those suffering from gluten-intolerance or celiac disease taste the good life through a 30 day Gluten Freebies Giveaway on Facebook.  Rudi’s Gluten-Free was founded on the idea that you don’t have to give anything up to go gluten-free – the company’s breads and baked goods look, taste and feel like the real thing – and is hosting this giveaway to share how delicious a gluten-free life can be.

“Now that at least one in 133 Americans has celiac disease, according to a study by Alessio Fasano in the Archives of Internal Medicine, we’re proud to show that even if you’re gluten-free you can enjoy food just like everyone else,” said Doug Radi, vice president of marketing for Rudi’s Organic Bakery. “Our 30 day giveaway gives new and old fans on our Facebook page the opportunity to win prizes that will spiff up their gluten-free cooking repertoire and put a little fun in their daily routine to help them live a happy, healthier, gluten-free life.”

Beginning on Feb. 6, fans can log onto the Rudi’s Gluten-Free Facebook page, “Like” the brand and receive a $2 off coupon. Additionally, by visiting the Giveaway tab on the Facebook page, consumers can enter weekly to win prizes given away each day, like Rudi’s Gluten-Free breads and baked goods, a Cuisinart toaster, Crofter’s Organic jams, a Kodak digital camera, and gluten-free cookbooks.

Rudi’s is also sharing the love here at GFM.com.  They have graciously given me a Rudi’s prize pack chock-full of great (and delicious) gluten-free swag.

One of my readers will win the following:

2 Free Product Coupons
1 Rudi’s GF Branded Toaster
1 Rudi’s GF Reusable Bag

Yes, you read that correctly, your very own Rudi’s toaster.

So what are you waiting for?  Head on over to their Facebook page and see what’s on offer today.  What better way to start 2012 than with a delicious gluten-free giveaway?

The giveaway has ended.

Congratulations to Ellen A. from Ohio who was the lucky winner.
