Simple Mills Farmhouse Cheddar Crackers

I have started a new series of posts that I’ll be peppering-in entitled Everyday Luxuries.  Sometimes it’s those little daily treats that I come across that are just what is needed and I wanted to shared them with my readers.  So, when you see the EL designation you’ll know it is an Everyday Luxury.

It is no secret that I am a huge snacker — particularly those of the salty variety.  Since my celiac diagnosis, now more that twenty years ago, one nostalgic snack has remained elusive in gluten-free form — the infamous Cheez-It.  There was always something about those little bright orange squares of goodness that drew me to them and I truly missed them post-diagnosis.  They were one of those everyday small luxuries whose flavor could instantly transport you back in time to when you were a kid.

Imagine my excitement when I was placing a FreshDirect order only to find a new-to-me brand had been added — Simple Mills.  One of their products caught my attention, the Farmhouse Cheddar almond flour crackers.  The ingredients piqued my interest since there was nothing artificial and it had an interesting nut and seed flour blend using almonds, flax and sunflower seeds.  It also contains cassava (which I love) so that sealed the deal.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with their flavor.  It is so reminiscent of the iconic Cheez-It but so much better and made with organic cheddar cheese.  They have a slightly denser texture giving them a strong crunch but they are by no means heavy.  They are also thinner and have a slight onion/garlic undertone to them that adds an additional layer of depth to them.  Okay, I know what you are thinking — they are just crackers — but these are truly addictive and it’s nice to have a snack option that is not full of unrecognizable ingredients.  They are also corn- and soy-free if you avoid those ingredients as well.

The almond flour crackers come in six flavors: Farmhouse Cheddar, Sea Salt, Cracked Black Pepper, Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil, Rosemary and Sea Salt, Sea Salt and a new Smoky BBQ Cheddar (which I know I am dying to get my hands on).

You can learn more about Simple Mills on their website and view their entire product portfolio which includes sprouted seed crackers, baking mixes, cookies and frostings.  You can also find out where to purchase their products near you or have them shipped directly to your front door.
