Snikiddy Baked Fries, Assorted Flavors

Once again, my favorite gluten-free section at my grocery store did not disappoint and was chock-full of new GF items once again. This time it was the Snikiddy Baked Fries line from my favorite cheese puff people. These fries come in four great flavors: Cheddar Cheese; Classic Ketchup; Parmesan Garlic; and Original. I was able to sample three out of the four as I did not notice any of the ketchup variety on the shelf – shame really because I love ketchup flavored crisps. At least I still have one variety to sample in the future. The nice thing about Snikiddy products is that they are, aside from being gluten- and wheat-free, sans corny syrup, trans fat, saturated fat, and hydrogenated oils – which given the fantastic consistency (not dry and lifeless) it is truly remarkable.

I first tried the Parmesan Garlic variety which was really very good. One thing I have always liked about Snikiddy products is that they do not skimp on the flavoring. They also somehow manage to ensure that the flavor is evenly distributed. Those of you out there that have indulged in a bag of flavored chips only to find the flavor balance to be off – some with too much, some with not enough – know what I am talking about. Back to the fries…the Parmesan Garlic was wonderfully garlicky with nice undertones of tangy cheese. The fries themselves are crispy and the majority of the fries were nicely intact and not broken.

The Cheddar Cheese variety was a cheese lover’s delight. The cheddar flavor really played well off of the corn and potato flavors of the fries. It had just the right amount of tanginess to make you take notice, but again, was not overpowering. Finally came the good old Original variety but do not think that that means plain by any stretch of the imagination. Think more along the lines of seasoned fries as these had a nice and subtle hint of cheesiness and just a tiny hint of garlic was noticeable.

I am always looking for new and delicious snack items and these new items from my old standby Snikiddy do not disappoint. I highly recommend giving them a try. Now, if I can just locate the ketchup flavor I will be one happy Celiac.
