My friends from down under sent me some of their products to sample and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the offerings. I am always on the hunt for great new gluten-free products that make for a great change from my normal routine. I received Byron Bay Gourmet Foods Gluten-Free Sticky Date & Ginger Cookies and Rosemary & Sea Salt Crispbread – both of which were very unique.
First up was the Sticky Date Cookies cookies. Now, I just happen to love all things dates. I also have a particular penchant for cookies, so this was a win-win situation. The first thing you’ll notice about these cookies is that they a mildly sweet so you don’t feel like you are eating a sugar bomb. These tiny confections are highly complex in the flavor department though. The subtle base has just a hint of saltiness from the butter followed by a delicate sweet earthiness from the dates and accompanying walnuts rounded out with just a hint of ginger spiciness. These are the perfect accompaniment to a nice cup of tea or your morning coffee. They also work amazingly as a crumbled topping for ice cream.
The Rosemary & Sea Salt Crispbread are a real standout. As many of you know, gluten-free crackers are often hit or miss. These crispbread cracker rounds are wafer-thin and the absolutely perfect side for cheese or when topped with a hearty dip. They have a subtle flavor of cheese and rosemary that does not overpower or take away from your topping of choice.
