Fantastic Savory Choice Giveaway

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

What better way to start the year than with a delicious giveaway?  Oh, and this is no ordinary giveaway – this is absolutely one of my recent favorite finds and something you will always find at the ready in my pantry.  The first giveaway of 2011 is courtesy of Savory Choice broth concentrates.  Now, I know what you are thinking…broth…really?  Yes, my friends, but these are quite possibly the coolest product I have come across in a long time.

Sure they make a great broth base but I have used them for so much more.  These make quite possibly the best dip you will ever find.  Just stir in a packet of the vegetable variety with some sour cream or yogurt any other toss-ins you like (my personal favorite is spinach) and violà!  Instant dip that is absolutely so flavorful and creamy smooth you’ll wonder what you were thinking with packaged powder bases.  Making a chicken or beef stir-fry?  Toss in one of your matching meat’s concentrate counterpart and add a new level of flavor to your dish.  Now I am going to be completely honest on the dip front and come clean that I have used both the chicken and beef varieties to make over the top savory dips – think roast chicken or beef flavored potato crisps à la the United Kingdom.

My fabulous friends over at Savory Choice are giving one lucky ready an ultra-fabulous prize pack that will allow you to experiment to your heart’s content and you get some nifty apparel as to boot.  Thanks Savory Choice.  What’s included in the prize pack?  What’s not…

One 12 count box of Chicken Broth Concentrate
One 12 count box of Beef Broth Concentrate
One 12 count box of Reduced Sodium Vegetable Broth Concentrate
One 12 count box of Turkey Broth Concentrate
One 4 count box of Reduced Sodium Chicken Broth Concentrate
One Beef Demi Glace
One black golf shirt with an embroidered Savory Choice Logo

So what do you have to do to win – very little actually.

You can gain a maximum of four entries:
1.  Head on over to Savory Choice’s Facebook page and “Like” them…trust me, you’ll want to like them.
2.  Leave a comment on Savory Choice’s Facebook page stating who sent you (GFM) and what recipe you’d like to try one of their concentrates in.
3.  Leave a comment right here and tell everyone what recipe you’d like to try one of the Savory Choice concentrates in.
4.  Head on over to my new GFM.com Facebook page and “Like” it.

Oh, and if you head-on over to the Savory Choice Web site you can get some great in-store coupons to pick-up some concentrates on your next shopping trip.

Whatever your method of entry, please just shoot me an e-mail or comment right here to let me know what method(s) of entry you selected.  This way no entries will be overlooked.

A very special thanks to the ever fabulous gluten-free PR maven Gluten Free Dee for introducing me to this product last year.

Now for the fine print:  Contest open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older.  A maximum of four entries per person are allowed.  Deadline to enter is Sunday, February 27, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time).  Winner will be notified on or after February 28, 2011.

New Product Review and Giveaway, Katz Gluten Free Bakery

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

I have long been a fan of Katz’s Gluten-Free delicious baked goods so when they asked me to sample their new frosted chocolate cupcakes and vanilla rugelach – it took about two seconds for me to say “yes”.  Oh, and they are graciously giving me one of their fabulous sampler packs to give away to one lucky reader.  All you need to do is send me an e-mail and you’ll be entered.  Enter by December 31, 2010.

Katz’s is also giving away a fantastic grand raffle prize of one of every product they make.  You can enter right on their site – just be sure to tell them Gluten Free Mike sent you in the referred by field.  The winner will be drawn January 3rd.  What better way to start 2011 than with a fabulous cache of gluten-free goodies.  If you just cannot wait and want to place an order they are even offering free shipping on orders over $30 – nice.

So now the reviews…

The chocolate frosted cupcakes arrived in perfect condition.  The cupcakes were wonderfully moist and you could really taste the cocoa without being overly sweet.   Each cupcake was enrobed in a right chocolate frosting and half-covered in colored sprinkles.  Even my non-Celiac other half raved about these.

The vanilla rugelach was every bit as good as their other flavors but had a delicate note of vanilla that really allowed the pastry to shine.  The crisp layers of rich buttery pastry are absolutely out of this world and you would never know they are gluten-free – but thankfully they are.  These too are perfectly sweet so you can enjoy the complex flavors of the baked good themselves.

You really cannot go wrong with Katz’s baked goods and if you miss Challah bread – Katz’s is the absolute best I have come across.  So, thanks to my friends at Katz Gluten-Free Bakery for making this holiday season and New Year so sweet.

Somebody Stop Me. Another Great Giveaway!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

If it is December it must be time for more super gluten-free giveaways – hey ‘tis the season.  This time my ever fabulous friends at General Mills have given me one of their fantastic Live Gluten Freely product boxes to give away to one lucky reader.  General Mills has truly been a leader in helping to bring gluten-free products mainstream and best of all their products taste great. Head on over to their dedicated gluten-free site which is full of information from recipes to resources to product information (they have over 300 of them, ranging quite literally from soup to nuts).  Better yet, they have a comprehensive gluten-free product list available online and in a handy pocket-sized version

I personally am a huge fan of their Betty Crocker mixes and I can honestly say there is always a box of Chex in my pantry (I had a bowl for breakfast this morning).  Their Betty Crocker Potato Buds make for quick and easy mashed potatoes and I cannot say enough about gluten-free Bisquick.  I must have made pancakes every weekend since it came on the market.  You’ll also always find a Lärabar, okay Lärabars plural, tucked away in my briefcase in case I am on the go and need a gluten-free snack.

So what is in the Live Gluten Freely product box? Well, I am glad you asked. The winner will receive the following:

Betty Crocker® Gluten-Free Brownie Mix
Betty Crocker® Gluten-Free Yellow Cake Mix
Betty Crocker® Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting
Honey Nut Chex® Cereal
Bisquick® Gluten Free Original Pancake and Baking Mix
Betty Crocker® Fruit Flavored Snacks Variety Pack – Fruit Roll-Ups®, Fruit Gushers®, Fruit by the Foot®
Peanut Butter Cookie Lärabar® Snack Bar
Betty Crocker® Potato Buds® Mashed Potatoes
Betty Crocker® Red Serving Spoon

There is truly something for everyone in this package.  If you just cannot wait to get your hands on this package you can actually order one right from General Mills and have one shipped directly to yourself or your favorite Celiac.

Entering could not be easier.  Just click here to send me an e-mail (with Live Gluten Freely in the subject line) and you are done.  How’s that for easy?

Now for the fine print…
Contest is open to legal residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older and by entering you are agreeing that you meet these eligibility requirements.  Contest ends 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, Sunday, December 12, 2010.

Happy Belly Bags Giveaway

Monday, November 15th, 2010

I love it when new companies reach out to me, particularly those who are doing something unique when it comes to Celiac disease and food allergies in general. One of those companies that I am so pleased to have sponsor this giveaway, is Happy Belly Bags

Happy Belly Bags created a super-fabulous custom Gluten Free Mike bag full of exciting products for me to give away to one of my lucky readers. Believe me, this is one jam packed bag full of many unique gluten-free products that were new to me. To enter, just click here. Easy Peasy!

I had the opportunity to virtually interview Happy Belly Bags founder Sarah Rothrock to find out what made her decide to start a food allergy-specific company.

When did you launch the company?

The company launched officially in September of 2010. It was about a year and a half in the making, we had to choose products, design the site, create a logo etc… So finally we are here and available to the public.

What made you decide to start an allergy-friendly business — particularly one that caters to a wide-range of allergies and conditions?

The main reason I decided to start Happy Belly Bags was due to the fact that I myself had a very unhappy belly from about the time I was 12. After visits to many doctors, several procedures and minor surgeries and no answers I started doing some research on my own. I decided that I would try eliminating things from my diet to see if that would help and sure enough I started seeing immediate results. I have just finished removing gluten from my diet and I have never felt better. So I decided that I wanted to make other people’s bellies happy too!

I know I was so frustrated when I first started on my restricted diet when I would get gourmet food gifts from people and was never able to enjoy any of the goodies, I also had a difficult time picking out which foods to start with. I thought it would be great to have a Starter Kit as well as offer gifts available that had the same quality and taste that I was used to. So Happy Belly Bags was born! I wanted to build the business around what I believed in as far as keeping it “green” as well as having healthy and organic choices for people with all types of food aversions, allergies and intolerances. Everyone deserves a Happy Belly!

Which of your bags is the most popular?

Currently our most popular bag in the Gluten-Free Starter Kit, the Organic Snacker Belly and the Collegiate Belly Bags are also very popular. We have been getting request for Children’s Bags and plan to launch those in the near future!

What food allergy do you get the most requests for?

We get the most requests for gluten-free foods, dairy-free and nut-free foods are also very popular.

How do you choose items that you will include in your bags?

This is the most difficult part of the business. We are always looking for new foods and tasting items that have just entered the market. We used up taste panels as well as taste the products ourselves; we also read reviews and articles about products to determine their popularity. We want to have high quality items that are healthy but also taste good. Sometimes it is difficult to narrow it down but we always go with our gut (literally)! We are always looking for great products so any suggestions would be welcome!

So what is in your custom GFM Happy Belly Bag? It is more like what’s not in the bag…

Things Just Keep Getting More Fabulous

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Now that my new site and blog are running without issue we are moving out of beta and stepping into full-scaled launch.  There will always be tweaks and enhancements to make but I am now comfortable with the foundation my great designers and programmers have developed.  That coupled with also getting a handle on working on a new platform is helping to add to my comfort level – so it is now full speed ahead.

I had been holding back on adding new content until moving out of the beta phase.  So, get ready for and explosion of new reviews and giveaways to come at you fast and furious.

Monday I am launching a fantastic giveaway from a new allergy friendly company out there (and this giveaway is national).  I also have a second giveaway from one of America’s major companies that just happens to have a wide-range of gluten-free products — many of which you should be able to pick up at your local supermarket.  Finally, tis the season — and with the holidays fast upon us I am planning on very special holiday giveaway of my very own to help spread gluten-free cheer.

I have a cache of new product and restaurant reviews in the queue that are sure to blow your gluten-free socks off and they will be coming at you on a regular basis now that the new GFM is up and running.  Fasten those seatbelts because a whole new level of gluten-free fabulous just launched.

Who Wants Pancakes and More? Gluten Free Bisquick Giveaway.

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

I thought what better way to wrap up my old site and usher in the new than with a fabulous giveaway thanks to my friends at Bisquick and MyBlogSpark.

One lucky winner will receive a really cool (and delicious) prize pack courtesy of Bisquick and MyBlogSpark delivered right to their door.  The prize includes: a fantastic (and heavy) cast-iron pancake pan; a fun pancake “penl” so you can make cool shapes or just pour your batter with ease; and flexible spatula, and most importantly your very own box of Gluten-Free Bisquick.

I have actually long missed Bisquick since my Celiac diagnosis and have been dying to actually give the gluten-free version a go.  Well, it did not disappoint and I made a fabulous batch of pancakes the other day that tasted, well, like the real deal I remembered.  I cannot wait to try some of my other old tried and true Bisquick recipes.  I must dig up the famous upside down pizza recipe so I can give a gluten-free version a try this weekend.

Okay, so you are probably wondering how you enter?  Well, it could not be any easier – just leave a comment after this post.  If you have already tried the gluten-free version of Bisquick let me (and my readers) know what you think.  Enter by midnight (Pacific) October 10th for your chance to win.  The lucky winner will be announced right here on Monday morning.

Oh, and while you are at it, why not head over to the dedicated gluten-free Bisquick site for some great tips and recipe ideas.  My friends at MyBlogSpark are also graciously giving my readers a printable $1 off coupon so you can pick up a box and give it a go.
