Let's Have a Bit of Fun. 09/28/2009
![]() I recently had the opportunity to sample a selection of gluten free fruit snacks from Betty Crocker. First was a variety pack that contains: Fruit Roll-Ups; Fruit Gushers; and Fruit by the Foot. The second box contained Create-A-Bug fruit flavored snacks. All of the snacks were really very good. The first box was really a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I remember the odd Fruit Roll-Up being packed in my lunches as a child for a sweet treat. There is something about the sound the plastic makes as you unroll it that really took me back to my childhood. More importantly it tasted just as I remembered it. The Fruit Gushers were interesting small jewel-shaped fruit snacks that were filled with a tangy gel. Finally, the Fruit by the Foot was similar to the Fruit Roll-Up only thinner and longer. The Create-A-Bug snacks are your traditional fruit snacks that you (or your kids) can assemble into strange bug variations that kids will surely love. What's nice about these snacks is they are portion controlled which will make parents happy and each individual package is 100 calories or less...nice. The fact that they are gluten free (now prominently featured on the boxes) is just the icing on the cake. So I thought, what better way to start the week than with a great giveaway supplied by my friends at My Blog Spark. We have made all of the gf baked good for out gluten full friends and they devour them. My daughter and her brother have been eating betty crocker fruit snacks for a long time now and will continue forever (I eat them too!!!) thanks for the chance to win a simple joy prize for my daughter whose birthday is in october!!! shelly carpenter Mon, 28 Sep 2009 16:08:14 Yeah, love GF Betty Crocker mixes, have created a recipe that is to dye for, and I guess I will be nice and share it with anyone who wants it!~ Kuddos for Betty Crocker a major chain to stepping up the plate and offering GF foods to all the Celiac in the world!! Corrie Jenkins Tue, 29 Sep 2009 05:29:04 My 2 year old was just diagnosed in June with Celiac so by default by 4 year old is now gluten free too. I was very excited to find these Betty Crocker snacks to be GF! Although there are tons of GF options out there finding products for picky toddlers and preschools can be a challenge. My girls go crazy for the fruit gushers! I can get them to do just about anything around the house by offering them as a prize! My 2 year old is also a huge fan of Amy's GF mac and cheese and Smartfood popcorn. Thanks! Teri Tue, 29 Sep 2009 11:50:45 Really??? Betty Crocker makes GF mixes???? I am so running to the grocery store right after I am done hitting the reply button here! I am new to the GF lifestyle and it's been a little difficult (only a little). There's so much to offer now, but I really like homemade things. My favorite thing right now is RedMills Pancake mix. Mmmmm pancakes! I love pancakes and so do my teenage kids. The best part of these is that both my kids think these have better flavor than regular and they don't even have to eat GF! So I give these a "two spatulas" up! Dick Butz Tue, 29 Sep 2009 13:11:07 My son's partner is Celiac so my wife Toni and I are always on the lookout for products that can be either prepared or "passed over" to him. It is nice that manufactures are now taking an interest in dietary problems and are creating lines to accommodate their needs.I would like very much to thank Betty Crocker for being at the forefront of this movement Donna Neish Tue, 29 Sep 2009 17:49:34 A high five to Betty Crocker for putting GLUTEN FREE products out there where the everyday consumer can see and access them. It is so refreshing to see GLUTEN FREE products on the regular aisle shelves in a regular supermarket. It helps bring awareness about those of us out there with Celiac/Gluten Intolerance and make products readily accessible to anyone hosting a person with Celiac/Gluten Intolerance. It is especially exciting to see products that both adults and kids can enjoy and items that don't taste or look totally "different". GOOD JOB BETTY CROCKER!!! Lori Baird-Turner Tue, 29 Sep 2009 19:05:17 I have tried the Betty Crocker mixes already. Not bad at all. With so much of our stuff being so crumbly, it was nice to find something a bit nicer in quality. Nutritionwise, oh well, we all need a treat, right?!! I was a fan of Betty's stuff before, but am pleased to see new stuff coming out for us GFers. My favorite GF food though has got to be ORGRAN GF Falafel mix. It has the right amount of spice and cooks up quick and is delicious with rice or in a lettuce wrap. Better than the carts I think and I used to love those until I found out they put pita IN them :( Why do people have to mess with perfectly good quality, healthy food and add extra stuff to it? Brooklyn Tue, 29 Sep 2009 22:38:25 I LOVE BETTY CROCKER GF CHOCOLATE CAKE! I got a box the first time I ever saw it. I took it home and made cupcakes. I didn't even use any icing cuz I had no GF. It was great either way though. All birthday cakes will be made from betty from now on. Josee Bilodeau Wed, 30 Sep 2009 06:03:47 thankx mike ! is that it? lol hope it works! lolllllllll Will Jenkins Wed, 30 Sep 2009 18:04:41 One word- SKITTLES! melissa Wed, 30 Sep 2009 19:38:53 My now 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with celiac in July. since then we seem have found a few things she really likes for treats. Her favorite so far is Classic Gummi Bears by Lets do...organic. Wed, 30 Sep 2009 21:33:27 I am soooo loving Betty Crocker and their huge steps to provide mainstream products without gluten! ;) I'm a fan of Fruit Roll-Ups but when I need a chocolate fix, their GF cookies and brownies are my favorites! I make a few batches a week just because I hate to go a day without a tasty treat! :) Thu, 01 Oct 2009 09:06:28 My favorite simple joy? Coffee and a scone (I have a place to get GF ones you might want to review, Mike). Thu, 01 Oct 2009 16:00:48 My simple joy is discovering and exploring new foods with my daughter. She gets excited by all the new GF sweets coming out, I get excited that she now eats all the veggies I put in front of her! Thu, 01 Oct 2009 19:42:55 Thanks so much for blogging about gluten-free candies! We're relatively new to the gluten-free world and my poor son was mourning the approach of Halloween because he didn't know what candies he could eat. Way to go, Mike! =) Your comment will be posted after it is approved. Leave a Reply |
